Qatar kingfish fishing ban

The Ministry of Municipality, represented by the Fisheries Department, has announced the annual ban on kingfish fishing using fixed gillnets as part of its efforts to protect marine resources and ensure the sustainability of fish stocks.

Ban Dates

  • The fishing ban will be in effect from 15 August to 31 October 2026.

  • During this period, specific restrictions will apply to safeguard kingfish populations during a critical stage of their lifecycle.

Regulations During the Ban

The Ministry has outlined the following rules:

  • Fishing for kingfish using fixed gillnets is prohibited.

  • Trading and transporting kingfish fishing nets are prohibited.

  • Fishing for kingfish is allowed only using hand lines.

Supporting Sustainable Fisheries

The seasonal ban has been introduced to help conserve kingfish stocks and promote sustainable fishing practices. By limiting the use of fixed gillnets during this period, the Ministry aims to protect marine biodiversity and ensure healthy fish populations for future generations.

The Ministry urged fishermen and stakeholders to comply with the regulations throughout the ban period, supporting the country's ongoing efforts to preserve its marine environment and maintain sustainable fisheries.
