Qatar is home to people from over 150 countries. Most of them live far from family, navigate cultural adjustment daily, and carry financial pressures that rarely show on the surface. Mental health support in Qatar has expanded significantly. This guide covers every resource available to expats, from free crisis lines to private clinics to online therapy.
The National Mental Health Helpline at 16000
This is the single most important mental health resource in Qatar. Call 16000 and select Option 4. The service is free, completely confidential, and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The helpline receives over 2,000 calls every month. It is staffed by trained mental health professionals including nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, and allied health specialists. The team speaks Arabic, English, Tagalog, Hindi, Urdu, and Malayalam. Those languages cover the vast majority of Qatar's expat communities directly.
The helpline handles crisis support, anxiety, depression, women's mental health concerns, substance misuse, and guidance on accessing further services. You do not need insurance. You do not need an appointment. You do not need to give your name.
If you are calling from outside Qatar, the international number is +974 4406-9963. You can also reach the helpline by email at 16000@contactcenter.gov.qa if a phone call is not possible.
PHCC Nar'aakom Line at 107
The Primary Health Care Corporation runs a community mental health service called Nar'aakom. Access it by calling 107, using the Nar'aakom app, or visiting phcc.gov.qa.
Your family doctor or psychiatrist can refer you directly to a mental health support clinic through PHCC. The service works through a stepped-care approach in close partnership with Hamad Medical Corporation. It is best suited for mild to moderate mental health conditions and community-level referrals.
Qatar Red Crescent Migrant Worker Support Line at 800 0000
Qatar Red Crescent operates a dedicated psychological support line for migrant workers. Call 800 0000. The line is available Sunday through Thursday from 9am to 5pm.
This service is specifically designed for OFWs, blue-collar workers, and migrant employees facing mental distress. If you are a migrant worker struggling with isolation, workplace stress, or emotional crisis, this line exists for exactly that situation.
Emergency Services at 999
Call 999 immediately for any psychiatric emergency. This includes situations where someone is in danger of harming themselves or others. Emergency services in Qatar respond to mental health crises alongside medical and police emergencies.
Child Abuse Helpline
If you need to report suspected child abuse, call +974 4003-4000 during regular work hours from Sunday to Thursday between 7am and 3pm. For after-hours reporting, call +974 4003-7227. That line operates 24 hours a day and is intended for professionals including school staff and healthcare providers.

Online Self-Help Tools and Directories

The Nar'aakom App from PHCC provides access to health services including mental health referrals directly from your phone.
TherapyRoute.com is a directory for finding licensed therapists currently practicing in Qatar.
HeliumDoc, also known as the Helium App, allows you to search for and book English-speaking psychologists and psychiatrists in Doha directly from your phone.
How to Verify That Your Therapist Is Licensed
This step matters. Confirm that any clinician you see holds a license from the Department of Healthcare Professions under Qatar's Ministry of Public Health. Many qualified practitioners also hold membership with the Middle East Psychological Association, which promotes ethical standards across the region. Verifying credentials before your first session protects you from unlicensed practitioners operating without proper oversight.
Important Note on Medication
Some medications prescribed legally in the UK, United States, or other countries are classified as controlled substances in Qatar. Possessing them without a valid Qatari prescription is illegal regardless of your home country prescription.
Only prescriptions issued by a doctor licensed by Qatar's Ministry of Public Health are accepted in Qatar. If you currently take prescribed medication, carry the original prescription or a certified copy whenever you travel. Consult a Qatar-licensed doctor as soon as possible after arriving to get a local prescription for any controlled medication you rely on.
Insurance and Cost
Qatar residents with medical insurance may have coverage for some mental health services. Coverage varies widely between policies and employers. Always check whether your employer health insurance covers outpatient psychiatric or psychological sessions before you book a private appointment.
If you hold a Hamad Medical Card, that card gives you access to state mental health services at a subsidized cost. HMC's services represent the most affordable option for residents who qualify.
