MECC Registers 24,000 Requests on Falcons Platform, CITES Permit System

Doha, September 09 , 2026 : The electronic system for falcon services and CITES permits at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) has recorded 24,734 applications since its launch in 2024 through September 6, with around 67 percent of completed applications processed on the same day they are submitted, provided all required documents are included.

Steady Growth in Demand Since Launch

The system has seen consistent growth in usage, recording 6,115 applications in 2024, before rising to 12,475 applications in 2025 — an increase of around 104 percent. Between January and September 6 of this year, 6,144 applications were recorded.

CITES Import Permit Tops Most-Requested Services

The CITES import permit ranked as the most requested service since the system's launch, with 5,747 applications, followed by falcon passport renewal with 4,063 applications, and the issuance of a passport for a CITES-bred falcon with 3,512 applications. Applications for the transfer of falcon ownership totaled 2,347.

Officials Highlight Service Development

Commenting on the figures, Assistant Undersecretary for Protection and Natural Reserves Affairs Dr. Ibrahim Abdul Latif Al Muslimani said the record 104 percent growth in applications last year reflects the qualitative development of services offered to falconers and other beneficiaries, as well as the system's ability to accommodate rising demand while maintaining fast and accurate processing. He urged falconers to ensure all required documents are complete before submission to guarantee same-day processing and avoid delays.

He added that the digital development of these services aligns with the Ministry's responsibility to monitor and regulate trade in species listed under the CITES convention, in line with national and international requirements supporting biodiversity and wildlife conservation.

Streamlined Procedures Aim to Ease Travel, Import-Export

Director of the Wildlife Development Department Khalid Juma Bu Jumhour Al Mohannadi highlighted the Ministry's continued efforts to review and streamline electronic service procedures. He urged beneficiaries to ensure all permits and documents are completed before beginning travel, import, or export procedures, in order to facilitate falcon movement in line with approved regulations.

Souq Waqif Office Supports In-Person Assistance

The Wildlife Development Department's Souq Waqif Services Office has helped facilitate customer access to services, gather feedback, and provide on-site support and training — particularly for elderly beneficiaries — assisting them in completing applications electronically or processing requests on their behalf when needed.

The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) aims to regulate international trade in endangered species to ensure such trade does not threaten their survival in the wild.
