The Assistive Technology Center (Mada) has launched through the Mada Innovation Program, in partnership with the Qatar Central Bank, the new version of Qatari money reader app on smartphones.

The launch of the new version of the application comes as one of the applications in which Mada Center invests in order to help people with visual impairments and the elderly to read and verify the cash they have when purchasing.

The Qatari currency reader app is the first of its kind in the State of Qatar that combines the capabilities of modern technology and the needs of people with visual impairments and the elderly.

It works with smart algorithms that combine the capabilities contained in the phone and the database registered in the program to read the value of banknotes in audio in both languages Arabic and English, to make a qualitative leap in the world of digital inclusion.

The Qatari currency reader application is characterised as an electronic application that is completely accessible to people with visual impairments and the elderly as they can collect and arrange currencies and calculate the total value of them.

The app is also distinguished by the fact that it does not need an Internet connection, because it contains a database that includes all the monetary denominations used in the State of Qatar, in addition to its support for a number of international currencies such as the Euro, the US dollar.

CEO of Mada Center, Maha Al Mansoori said that the center works with various partners and innovators to develop an ecosystem that supports the creation of technological solutions in the Arabic language to enhance digital access for people with disabilities and the elderly.

She pointed out that a number of discussion sessions were held with a group of people with visual impairments to figure out all the obstacles they face and take their advice during development to the completion stage.

The new version of the Qatari currency reader app is one of the successes achieved by the Mada Innovation Program, which was designed to encourage innovators to find solutions in Arabic for people with disabilities and the elderly.
