Kuwait's Ministry of Defense announced that the country's Armed Forces successfully detected and intercepted four cruise missiles and 21 hostile one-way attack drones that violated national airspace since dawn on Wednesday,15 July 2026,Β Β in the latest escalation of Iranian strikes against Gulf states.
Colonel Staff Saud Al-Atwan, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence, said in a press statement carried by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the hostile Iranian aerial aggression targeted several critical infrastructure installations across the country. He confirmed that the interceptions neutralized the primary threats, though the attack resulted in material damage. No human casualties were recorded.
Col. Al-Atwan reaffirmed that Kuwait's armed forces would continue to perform their duties with greater efficiency as part of their permanent state of readiness, emphasizing the military's ongoing commitment to protecting state security and ensuring the safety of citizens and residents.
Wednesday's interception is the latest in a series of Iranian attacks on Kuwaiti territory since the outbreak of the 2026 Iran war. Kuwait has repeatedly found itself in the crossfire despite the Kuwaiti Emir, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, stating that the country did not permit the use of its land, airspace, or waters for military action against Iran. Previous strikes in recent months have damaged vital installations including Kuwait International Airport, the Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery, and power and desalination plants, with earlier incidents resulting in both military and civilian casualties.
Just days earlier, on July 9, Kuwaiti forces intercepted three ballistic missiles, one cruise missile, and 10 hostile drones in a similar early-morning attack, which caused material damage from falling debris and left one person injured. That attack came shortly after Iran claimed responsibility for drone strikes targeting a US Patriot air defense system stationed in Kuwait.
The Gulf state hosts a significant American military presence, including bases that have themselves come under direct Iranian fire during the conflict. Regional neighbors, including Jordan, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia, have also reported intercepting Iranian missiles and drones in recent weeks, as the conflict continues to draw in multiple states across the Gulf and wider Middle East region.
Kuwaiti authorities have not announced further security measures beyond reaffirming the armed forces' continued high alert status.
