Kuwait Suspends Flights After Iranian Strikes Hit International Airport

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced on Wednesday that all air traffic at Kuwait International Airport has been suspended after Iranian missile and drone strikes struck Terminal One, leaving casualties and causing significant damage to airport facilities.

DGCA spokesperson Abdullah Al‑Rajhi confirmed that the authority immediately activated the airport’s emergency response plan following the attack. He explained that security and technical measures were swiftly implemented to safeguard passengers, staff, and infrastructure while ensuring that critical operations remained under control.

Flights scheduled to land in Kuwait were diverted to nearby airports as part of contingency procedures. Al‑Rajhi noted that the suspension will remain in effect until further notice, with authorities prioritizing safety while conducting a full assessment of the damage.

According to officials, specialized technical teams have begun evaluating the extent of destruction across the terminal and surrounding facilities. The inspection will determine the scope of repair work required before operations can resume. Al‑Rajhi emphasized that restoring services will depend on the completion of these assessments and the successful implementation of repair measures.

The DGCA underscored that passenger safety remains the top priority, adding that the suspension is a precautionary measure designed to prevent further risks while the situation is stabilized. The authority also highlighted that coordination with regional airports and airlines is ongoing to minimize disruption for travelers.

The incident marks a serious escalation, with Kuwait’s aviation sector forced to halt operations amid regional tensions. Officials reiterated that the emergency plan will continue to guide responses until the airport is fully secured and operational capacity is restored.
