Israeli Airstrike on Southern Lebanon Kills Seven, State Media Reports

An Israeli airstrike on southern Lebanon killed seven people and wounded three early Saturday, August 15, according to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency, in one of the deadliest attacks since a fragile truce between Israel and Hezbollah took effect in June.

The strike targeted a house on the outskirts of the village of Ansar in southern Lebanon. Emergency teams and paramedics searched through the rubble after the attack, Lebanese state media reported.

Strike Hits Home Near Ansar

Lebanon’s National News Agency said the dawn strike hit a residential property near Ansar. Initial reports put the death toll at seven, with three other people wounded. Authorities and emergency crews continued work at the site following the attack.

One of the Deadliest Incidents Since June Truce

The attack was among the deadliest reported in Lebanon since a precarious ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect on June 20. Despite the truce, Israeli strikes and other military activity have continued amid persistent tensions along the border and elsewhere in southern Lebanon.

Further Israeli Strike Reported Near Nabatiyeh

Associated Press reported that Israeli forces also struck the strategic Ali Taher hill near Nabatiyeh early Saturday. The developments come amid continuing military operations in southern Lebanon despite diplomatic efforts aimed at stabilising the ceasefire.
