Iran confirms two‑week safe passage through Hormuz Strait
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced on Wednesday, 8 April 2026, that secure navigation through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible for a twoâweek period, subject to technical limitations.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X, Araghchi confirmed that Iran will suspend its operations in the strategic waterway if attacks against the country cease. The announcement followed the declaration of a temporary ceasefire earlier in the day between Iran, the United States, and Israel.
The Foreign Ministerâs remarks came hours after US President Donald Trump stated that Washington had agreed to âsuspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks.â The arrangement is intended to ease tensions and ensure the uninterrupted flow of global energy shipments through one of the worldâs most critical maritime corridors.
