HH the Amir Meets Turkish President on Sidelines of UN General Assembly

New York, September 22, 2026 : HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani met on Tuesday with HE President of the Republic of Turkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on the margins of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, held at UN headquarters in New York.

During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed the strategic relations between Qatar and Turkiye, exploring avenues to deepen and expand cooperation across a range of fields.

HH the Amir and the Turkish President also discussed key issues on the UN General Assembly's agenda, along with the latest regional and international developments. Particular focus was given to the evolving regional situation and ongoing diplomatic de-escalation efforts, as well as the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz as a means of bolstering security and stability across the region.

The two sides also exchanged views on a range of other issues of mutual interest.

The meeting was attended by HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, along with several members of the official delegation accompanying HH the Amir. On the Turkish side, the meeting was also attended by Turkish ministers who are members of President Erdogan's official accompanying delegation.
