H.E. Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani has been nominated for OCA Presidency (2027โ€“2035 term) by 27 National Olympic Committees (NOCs), according to the latest announcement from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).


The nominations were formally ratified on 30 June 2026 and demonstrated the high expectations for Sheikh Joaan's leadership and vision for the future of Asian sport.


No Other Presidential Nominations Received


Nomination submissions by the OCA's 45 member National Olympic Committees closed at 5:00 PM (Kuwait time) on June 30, 2026.

Sheikh Joaan Thanks Member Committees


After the announcement, Sheikh Joaan thanked the National Olympic Committees, who entrusted him as their leader. He thanked the member nations for continually backing and dedicating to the development and development of sports throughout Asia.


Upcoming OCA General Assembly in Doha


The election process will take place at the OCA General Assembly, due to be held in Doha (QAT) on 27 January 2027. It will see representatives from the OCA's member nations come together for a meeting that will set the roadmap for the Olympic movement in Asia over the coming years.
