Portuguese football icon and star of Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr club, Cristiano Ronaldo, has made history after becoming the first person to surpass one billion followers across his social media platforms.

Ronaldo, widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, has amassed the milestone figure across his social media accounts which include X, YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram.

“We have made history – 1 BILLION followers,” the 39-year-old Al Nassr forward wrote on his Instagram page and on X. “This is more than just a number – it is a testament of our shared passion, drive, and love for the game and beyond.”

“From the streets of Maderia to the biggest stages in the world, I’ve always played for my family and for your, and now one billion of us stand together,” he added.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner continued: “You have been with me every step of the way, through all the highs and the lows. This journey is our journey, and together, we have shown that there are no limits to what we can achieve.”

“Thank you for believing in me, for your support, and for being part of my life. The best is yet to come, and we will keep pushing, keep winning, and making history together.”

Ronaldo’s Instagram account boasts more than 600 million followers, making him one of the most followed individuals on the platform, while he has more than 113 million followers on X.

He recently launched a YouTube channel to give insight into his personal life – which has charted his experiences in the Kingdom – to his followers. Within the first 24 hours of launching the channel, he had more than 20 million subscribers.

Ronaldo recently said he has no intention of retiring from international football after leading Portugal in the EURO 2024 championship, where France knocked his country out in the quarterfinals.

This year’s EURO campaign in Germany was the sixth major finals Ronaldo has featured in, a record, and he became the first European player in history to make 50 appearances at major tournaments.
