The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Official Countdown Clock, powered by Hublot, was unveiled this evening at Doha's picturesque Corniche Fishing Spot, marking one year to go to the big kick-off.
The striking timepiece was revealed to fans worldwide who tuned in live to Join the Beat via FIFA's YouTube channel and Qatar2022.qa, and begin the one-year countdown in unison with 150 guests at the special event in Qatar.
The elegant curves of the Countdown Clock were inspired by the unbroken loop of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 emblem and the ancient timekeeping tool of the hourglass, both reflecting the interconnected nature of the event, the structure is designed to be seen from any angle and reflect the amazing view of the city skyline behind it.
The Countdown Clock will drive anticipation as it ticks down through every hour, minute and second to the opening game at Al Bayt Stadium on 21 November 2022.
The ceremony was attended by a group of officials and senior guests, in addition to HE President of the International Football Association (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, and athletes from several countries, such as Cameroonian Samuel Eto'o, ambassador of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), English David Beckham, and former Brazilian defender Cafu, SC ambassador.
In addition to the reveal, special guests including Hublot Friend of the Brand and FIFA World Cup 1998 winner Marcel Desailly, Sami Trabelsi, head coach of Qatar Stars League side Al Sailiya, and Adel Khamis, Qatar Legacy Ambassador, took to the stage under a sky filled with captivating aerial drone displays and digital fireworks.
With exactly one year to go until the first FIFA World Cup in the Middle East and Arab world, Qatar has proudly completed construction work at all eight tournament venues.
So far, Qatar has built seven entire stadiums specifically to host the World Cup competitions, while Khalifa International Stadium has witnessed comprehensive development work.
The finishing touches were recently applied to Lusail Stadium the 80,000-capacity venue that will host next year's final on 18 December.
Lusail is one of seven venues to have been built from scratch, while Khalifa International Stadium was extensively redeveloped in preparation for the 22nd edition of football's flagship international tournament.

The announcement came after putting the final touches on Lusail Stadium, the largest stadium in the World Cup, with a fan capacity of 80,000 fans, which will witness the final match of the upcoming World Championship.
