Ferrari has just unveiled something that many enthusiasts thought was gone for good. The Ferrari 12Cilindri Manuale brings back the manual gearbox, but with a modern edge.
Ferrari revealed this limited-edition model in Maranello on 3 July 2026. It builds on the standard 12Cilindri, Ferrari's naturally aspirated V12 grand tourer. Only 1,499 units will ever be made.
A New Kind Of Manual Driving Experience
This isn't a simple return to old-school mechanics. Ferrari built an entirely new system called Manuale by-wire. It gives drivers a true manual feel while keeping the benefits of the dual-clutch transmission.
The car uses a real gear lever and a clutch pedal. Both work through electronic signals rather than direct mechanical links. Yet Ferrari engineered the system to feel just like a traditional manual gearbox.
Drivers can shift through six gears and reverse by hand. They can also switch to full automatic mode whenever they want. This gives owners the freedom to choose engagement or comfort, depending on the drive.
Engineering Borrowed From The Sea
Ferrari didn't build this system alone in a vacuum. The team worked closely with engineers from the Hypersail project. Hypersail is Ferrari's technology program for the marine industry.
That team had already developed a similar by-wire solution for boats. Ferrari adapted this expertise to translate mechanical gear changes into precise electronic signals. The result preserves the analogue feel drivers expect from a manual car.
The mechanism at the heart of the system is compact. It weighs less than 3.5 kilograms despite being packed with sensors and moving parts. Ferrari even fine-tuned the sounds the mechanism makes during gear shifts.
Removing The Paddles For The First Time In Years
For the first time in a long while, Ferrari removed the steering wheel paddles on this model. This decision puts full focus back on the gear lever and clutch pedal.
Ferrari wanted drivers to feel more ritual and physicality behind the wheel. If the clutch isn't pressed correctly, the car can stall or jerk. This mirrors real manual driving, rewarding skill and precise timing.
The clutch pedal itself detects pressure and converts it into digital signals. These signals control the dual-clutch gearbox in real time. Ferrari designed the pedal to recreate the same load and travel feel as older manual Ferraris.
Powered By A Screaming Naturally Aspirated V12
Under the bonnet sits a 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine. It produces 830 horsepower and revs all the way to 9,500 rpm. This high-revving character makes it an ideal match for manual gear changes.
The 12Cilindri Manuale can hit 100 km/h from a standstill in about 3 seconds. Top speed sits above 340 km/h. These numbers place it firmly among Ferrari's most exciting road cars.
Tailor Made Details Set This Edition Apart
Every 12Cilindri Manuale comes through Ferrari's Tailor Made personalisation program. Buyers get access to exclusive colours, materials and finishes not found on the standard car.
The number 1,499 isn't random either. It echoes the displacement in cubic centimetres of Ferrari's first-ever V12 engine, built back in 1947. That link ties this new car directly to Ferrari's earliest V12 heritage.
Design touches include a laser-etched side badge and a pinstripe finish on the front splitter. This pinstripe pays tribute to the classic Ferrari 365 GTB4. Forged five-spoke wheels and engraved door sills complete the look.
A Car Built For Purists
Ferrari designed this special series for a specific type of buyer. It targets Ferraristi who remain loyal to front-engined, two-seat V12 berlinettas. These are drivers who want a more physical, hands-on connection with their car.
The 12Cilindri Manuale also comes with Ferrari's seven-year maintenance program. This covers routine service work at no extra cost during that period. It applies across Ferrari's official dealer network worldwide.
With this launch, Ferrari proves that manual driving still has a place in 2026. It just needed to be reimagined with today's technology.
