What Is ESTA and How Does It Work?
ESTA is a mandatory pre-travel authorization system for all nationals from Visa Waiver Program countries traveling to the United States by air or sea. It is not a visa — it is a faster, cheaper, online screening process.
Once approved, an ESTA allows you to:
- Stay in the USA for up to 90 days per visit
- Make multiple trips to the US within the 2-year validity period
- Enter the US for tourism, sporting events like the World Cup, short business meetings, and transit
ESTA does not cover working or studying in the USA, stays exceeding 90 days, or individuals who have visited certain countries flagged under US travel restrictions.
