Ecuador Foreign Minister Meets Qatar Ambassador in Quito

QUITO - Ecuador’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility, Roberto Kury, met on Monday with the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Ecuador, Fahad Ahmed Jassim Al Hamar, in the capital Quito, with the two sides discussing bilateral cooperation between their countries, according to the Qatar News Agency.

The meeting reviewed the state of relations between Ecuador and Qatar and ways to further develop cooperation across areas of mutual interest. An official readout of the talks did not detail specific agreements or outcomes.

The encounter is the latest in a steady stream of high-level engagements between Quito and Doha over recent months. In June, Ecuador’s Vice President, María José Pinto, met with Ambassador Al Hamar to discuss cooperation between the two nations, and in July the Acting President of Ecuador’s National Assembly, Esteban Torres, held talks with the ambassador in Quito that focused on strengthening bilateral relations. The cadence of meetings points to a deepening diplomatic relationship spanning Ecuador’s executive and legislative branches.

Ambassador Al Hamar has represented Qatar in Ecuador through a period of active engagement, meeting a range of senior Ecuadorian officials as the two governments look to expand ties. Meetings of this kind typically center on exploring avenues of cooperation, from trade and investment to political and cultural exchange, and on maintaining the diplomatic momentum built between the two states.

Qatar and Ecuador maintain diplomatic relations and have periodically reviewed cooperation on issues of common concern. Monday’s meeting reaffirmed both sides’ interest in advancing that partnership, and further high-level contacts are expected as the two countries continue to build on recent exchanges.
