Authorities confirmed that a fire erupted in an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah nuclear power plant in the Al Dhafra Region following a drone strike on Sunday, 17 May 2026.
The Abu Dhabi Media Office reported that emergency teams responded immediately, extinguished the fire, and confirmed that no injuries were recorded. Officials stressed that the incident had no impact on radiological safety levels, with all precautionary measures enacted.
The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) stated that the fire did not compromise the safety of the facility or the readiness of its essential systems, affirming that all units at the plant continue to operate normally.
