Bosnia and Herzegovina inaugurates Qatar-funded Islamic Centre and Mosque

A new Islamic Centre and Mosque has officially opened in Lukavac, Bosnia and Herzegovina, marking a major religious, educational and cultural milestone for the local community.

The project was supported by the Qatar Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, strengthening cooperation between Qatar and Bosnia and Herzegovina in religious, educational and community development.

Grand Mufti Praises Qatar’s Support

His Eminence Dr. Husein Kavazovic, Grand Mufti of Bosnia and Herzegovina, expressed his gratitude to His Excellency Ghanem bin Shaheen bin Ghanem Al Ghanem, Qatar’s Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, for the ministry’s support in financing the project.

He described the centre as an important cultural landmark and a valuable addition to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s religious, educational and community institutions.

The centre was officially opened on August 15, 2026, corresponding to Rabi’ al-Awwal 2, 1448 AH, in the presence of religious, government and diplomatic representatives.

A Centre for Religious, Educational and Social Activities

The Islamic Centre and Mosque has been designed to serve a broad religious, educational and community purpose.

According to Dr. Kavazovic, the centre will support Islamic education, community initiatives and programmes aimed at strengthening religious awareness and Islamic identity.

It will also provide educational opportunities for younger generations while promoting values such as cooperation, belonging and social responsibility.

Multi-Purpose Facilities for the Community

The centre goes beyond serving as a place of worship. It has been designed as an integrated cultural and social facility.
