Doha, October 14, 2026 : Qatar Charity has implemented a comprehensive healthcare project in Rwanda that benefited 14,904 people over the course of a full year. The project is part of its efforts to strengthen social protection and improve access to healthcare for the most vulnerable groups. It was funded by Qatar’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs and carried out in coordination with the relevant Rwandan government authorities and institutions.
Project Covers Health Insurance Contributions for Eligible Families
The project helps eligible families access essential and specialized healthcare without financial hardship by covering their contributions to Rwanda’s community-based health insurance scheme. This support aims to improve beneficiaries’ health and well-being, enhance their quality of life, and strengthen household stability.
Rwandan Official Praises Transparency, Impact
During follow-up visits to monitor implementation and strengthen cooperation with official partners, Godfrey Kayigana, Director General of Social Affairs and Community Development at Rwanda’s Ministry of Local Government, highlighted the project’s humanitarian impact and its role in expanding access to essential healthcare for vulnerable families.
He expressed sincere appreciation to Qatar Charity for its effective management of the project and its commitment to transparency in selecting beneficiaries, which he said helps ensure assistance reaches those who need it most and supports sustainable development in Rwandan society. He described Qatar Charity as a trusted partner in humanitarian and development work.
Beneficiaries Selected Through Government, Religious Coordination
Beneficiaries were selected in coordination with Rwanda’s Ministry of Local Government and the Mufti of the Republic of Rwanda, Sheikh Musa Sindayigana, using clear and transparent criteria that prioritized the families with the greatest needs.
Beneficiaries Describe Impact of Coverage
During field visits, the delegation followed up on the project’s progress and met several beneficiaries, who spoke about the importance of the health insurance coverage. They said the cost of medical care had previously made it difficult to obtain the treatment they needed, given their limited incomes and household expenses.
Project Reflects Ministry’s Commitment to Health Security
The project reflects the commitment of Qatar’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs to supporting sustainable development programmes implemented by Qatar Charity and strengthening health security for vulnerable groups. It also embodies the values of solidarity and humanitarian cooperation, contributing to a better quality of life for thousands of people and their families.
