Doha, October 12, 2026 : The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the start of construction on the second package of the Roads and Infrastructure Development Project in Izghawa and Al Thumaid, at a cost of about QR 418 million. The package is part of Ashghal’s plan to develop road and infrastructure networks and improve services in line with urban and population growth in the two areas.
Eng. Tamader Al Mass, Project Engineer in Ashghal’s Roads Projects Department, said the second package is an important phase in completing road and infrastructure development in Izghawa and Al Thumaid. The project will provide integrated services to about 771 plots, as well as schools, commercial centers, mosques, and several service facilities and buildings. It will also support population and urban growth, with infrastructure built to the latest approved standards.
The project includes developing the road network and building a range of infrastructure facilities, improving traffic flow and connections to major roads. Al Mass said it will also improve traffic safety in the area and include sustainable solutions that expand green spaces and help preserve environmental quality.
The package covers roughly 23 km of roads and 30 km of pedestrian and cycling paths, along with 589 street lighting poles, 2,730 parking spaces, and road safety features, traffic signs, and road markings.
Infrastructure works include a 23 km rainwater drainage network and a 6 km treated sewage effluent (TSE) network to irrigate about 171,650 square meters of green areas, as well as roughly 15 km of additional drainage networks.
The package covers an area of about 600,000 square meters, between Al Dawakhil Street to the east, National Day Ceremonial Road to the north, and Al Khor Road to the south.
To keep construction efficient and limit disruption to residents and road users, the project has been split into three geographical zones, with work carried out in sequence in each zone and measures taken to keep traffic moving.
