Beirut, October 21, 2026 : Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy has described Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon as unacceptable, calling for greater Arab and international support to strengthen Lebanon’s institutions and help the country address its ongoing challenges.
Speaking during his visit to Lebanon, Fahmy stressed the importance of enhancing multilateral cooperation and translating joint Arab efforts into concrete political action.
He noted that the Arab League Council’s first ministerial-level resolution issued in September addressed the broader situation in Lebanon, including efforts to tackle the underlying causes of the crisis.
Fahmy said repeated Israeli military operations along the Lebanese border run counter to international resolutions and adversely affect the Lebanese people and the country’s capabilities.
He emphasized that Arab efforts should focus on strengthening the Lebanese state’s ability to provide essential services to its citizens, while also enhancing the capabilities of the Lebanese Armed Forces and supporting their national role.
The Arab League chief reaffirmed that Lebanon remains a central priority in the Arab community’s political commitments, highlighting the importance of sustained support to help the country meet these objectives.
