Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions
HE Executive Director of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions Sultan bin Hassan Al Jamali - based in Doha, said that defending human rights and freedoms, and working hard to promote and protect them, is one of the noblest goals of national human rights institutions.
In his speech today, during the Arab Networks participation in the charter committee discussion meeting for the first periodic national report of the State of Kuwait, HE Al Jamali stressed the Arab Network's keenness to build bridges of cooperation with all actors in the Arab region, led by the Arab Human Rights Committee (the Charter Committee) at the League of Arab States.
HE Al Jamali referred to the Memorandum of Understanding of the Arab Network with the Charter Committee, which aims to provide mutual support between the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions and the Arab Human Rights Committee in all areas of human rights, including the exchange of experiences and best practices, and raising the capabilities of national human rights institutions in the Arab world, as well as working on the provisions of the Arab Charter on Human Rights, presenting parallel reports before the Arab Human Rights Committee, and adopting the Arab Charter on Human Rights as one of the references on which national institutions rely in their reports.
His Excellency explained that experience has proven that the presence of regional human rights mechanisms has an added value alongside international human rights mechanisms, stressing that regional mechanisms are working to follow the same method of work with greater relevance, adhesion, and proximity to the regional and country situation of each Arab country, which gave it a broader horizon for the promotion and protection of human rights in the Arab region.
His Excellency stressed the continuation of cooperation with the League of Arab States, especially with the Charter Committee, the Arab Commission for Human Rights and the human rights department of the Arab League.
