Arab League Deems Israel's Rejection of Gaza Peace Plan a Disregard for International Will By Simran - August 11, 2026

CAIRO: The League of Arab States has condemned remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejecting a 15-point roadmap for implementing a comprehensive peace plan in the Gaza Strip, saying his position reflects a disregard for international will and established principles of the peace process.

The Arab League said Netanyahu’s rejection of the roadmap, along with his opposition to the establishment of a Palestinian state in Gaza or the occupied West Bank, threatens efforts to achieve a peaceful and comprehensive settlement.

Arab League Warns of Impact on Peace Efforts

In a statement, Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy said the Israeli position directly undermines prospects for a peaceful settlement and the establishment of a just and lasting peace.

Fahmy stressed that continued efforts to prevent Palestinian statehood could further complicate the regional peace process and weaken prospects for a negotiated settlement.

Ceasefire Violations Condemned

Fahmy also criticised what he described as Israel’s continued and repeated violations of the ceasefire in Gaza.

He specifically cited attacks targeting civilians and medical facilities, saying such actions constitute a serious breach of existing commitments and relevant United Nations resolutions.

The Arab League chief welcomed the position expressed by the foreign ministers of eight Arab and Islamic countries in a statement issued on August 6, which addressed the reported violations.

Call for Full Implementation of Peace Plan

Fahmy reiterated the importance of the full and serious implementation of the comprehensive peace plan and called for the completion of the process established by the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit in October 2025.

He stressed that implementing the agreed framework remains essential to creating conditions for a sustainable and comprehensive peace.

Warning Over Israeli Actions in Gaza and West Bank

The Arab League secretary-general warned that continued attempts to establish new realities in Gaza and the occupied West Bank could further entrench the occupation and undermine the possibility of creating an independent Palestinian state.

He said the expansion of control over Palestinian territory violates international law and relevant UN resolutions.

Fahmy called on US President Donald Trump and the international community to fulfil their responsibilities by supporting the full implementation of the comprehensive peace plan.

He also urged international actors to pressure the Israeli government to halt violations and meet its obligations under the relevant agreements and resolutions.

The Arab League said international efforts remain necessary to preserve the possibility of achieving a just and lasting settlement to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
