His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al‑Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, has sent an official cable of condolences to HE Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, following a tragic fire at an orphanage in Algiers that left multiple victims and injured several children. The Amir expressed deep sympathy for the families of the deceased and conveyed wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured.

The condolence message, issued through Qatar News Agency (QNA), framed the incident as a national tragedy and reaffirmed Qatar’s solidarity with the Algerian people during the period of mourning. QNA’s bulletin noted the Amir’s personal expression of sorrow and his hope that Algerian authorities would provide swift care and support to those affected.

Algerian media and regional outlets also reported on the exchange of condolences, highlighting the prompt diplomatic outreach from Doha. The Peninsula and Qatar Tribune published summaries of the Amir’s cable, underscoring the close bilateral ties between the two countries and the customary practice of heads of state offering formal sympathy after major civilian tragedies.

The incident in Algiers has prompted a wider diplomatic response: Algerian officials received messages of support from several capitals, and the Algerian government has begun emergency measures to assist survivors and investigate the cause of the fire. Coverage in regional press noted that senior Algerian officials, including the prime minister, participated in condolence and support efforts on behalf of the presidency.
