Al Wakra Hospital Renews Global Recognition for Kidney Stone Care

Al Wakra Hospital has secured renewed international accreditation for its kidney stone services, reinforcing its standing as a specialist centre for comprehensive urological care in Qatar.

The hospital's Urology Section, part of Hamad Medical Corporation, was re-accredited as a Center of Excellence for Kidney Stone Management by the US-based Surgical Review Corporation. The recognition is valid from June 2026 until 2029.

Eight urologists at Al Wakra Hospital were also accredited as Surgeons of Excellence, highlighting the clinical expertise supporting the service.

The section first received accreditation in 2019. It provides standardised approaches to urinary-stone treatment and operates a dedicated Stone Clinic, working with Dietetics and Nephrology when patients require coordinated care.

Al Wakra Hospital CEO and Medical Director Dr Omar Mohd Al Qahtani said the renewed recognition reflects the Urology team's consistent standard of care and its focus on continuous improvement.

Dr Khalid Al Rumaihi, Head of Urology at HMC, said the achievement strengthens the corporation's position in specialised urological care and reflects the expertise and quality commitment of its clinical teams.
