Qatari side Al Rayyan announce signing of Japan's Shogo Taniguchi
Shogo Taniguchi, a Japanese defender, was yesterday introduced by Al Rayyan in the presence of the club's president, Sheikh Ali bin Saud bin Ahmed Al Thani.
Nicolas Cordova, the Al Rayyan coach, was also present.
The 31-year-old centre back started two games as Japan competed at the World Cup in Qatar, where they advanced to the round of 16.
Taniguchi is taking over for injured Palestine defender Yasser Hamad at Rayyan. Taniguchi joined Kawasaki Frontale in 2014 after graduating from the University of Tsukuba, and he captained the team from 2020 till he won four J-League championships. Al Rayyan, who are at the bottom of the QNB Stars League standings, are looking for an improvement when play starts in the League on January 4.
