Seized vehicle
A pickup truck responsible for tarnishing a residential-neighbourhood road in a driving stunt has been impounded.
The General Directorate of Traffic on Monday said the action comes after a video of the stunt started circulating online.
A combination picture uploaded by the directorate on Twitter shows a red Nissan Frontier pickup smoking tyres and being carried away in a tow truck.
Drivers smoke the tyres by spinning the rear wheels at high frequency while keeping the vehicle stationary, usually to do reckless manoeuvres known as “burnouts” or “donots”. While they serve no significant purpose other than providing a dangerous thrill, they leave a mess behind — concentric rings of tyre tracks that are hard to remove from the road. The stunts are also detrimental to the vehicle, its occupants, the people around and public infrastructure.
The traffic authority said it had initiated further legal actions against the vehicle owner and called on the public to abide by the traffic laws.
