Qatari PM holds calls with Gulf counterparts on regional de-escalation

Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, held a round of separate telephone calls with his counterparts across the Gulf, focusing on bilateral cooperation and the latest regional developments, and on coordinated efforts to ease tensions and bolster the region's security and stability.

The Prime Minister held individual calls with the foreign ministers of five fellow Gulf states:

•  United Arab Emirates — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan;
•  Saudi Arabia — Minister of Foreign Affairs HH Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud;
•  Kuwait — Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah;
•  Oman — Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi;

What was discussed

Across the calls, the Prime Minister underlined the importance of all parties committing to dialogue and diplomacy, and of implementing what was agreed in the Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran — including safeguarding freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz — as a means of preserving regional security and protecting the gains achieved so far.

He reaffirmed Qatar's backing for all efforts aimed at defusing tensions and reaching a comprehensive agreement that would establish lasting peace in the region. The exchanges reflected the close, ongoing coordination among Gulf Cooperation Council states on shared security concerns.
