QatarEnergy confirms tanker strike, no casualties or environmental impact
QatarEnergy has confirmed that the Aqua 1, a fuel oil tanker chartered to the company, was struck in a missile attack in Qatar’s northern territorial waters in the early hours of Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
According to the Ministry of Defense, Qatar was targeted by three cruise missiles launched from Iran. The Armed Forces successfully intercepted two of the missiles, while the third hit the tanker. Emergency procedures were immediately implemented, and coordination with relevant authorities ensured the safe evacuation of all 21 crew members on board. No injuries were reported.
QatarEnergy stated that the incident caused no environmental damage, with monitoring confirming that marine life and surrounding waters remain unaffected. The company emphasized that safety measures and rapid response protocols were effective in containing the situation.
Officials highlighted that the event underscores both Qatar’s defense readiness and its commitment to protecting human life and critical infrastructure. The government reaffirmed its determination to safeguard sovereignty and maintain stability amid ongoing regional tensions.
