Officials from the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking, the Ministry of Interior, and the Public Prosecution Office participated in a virtual symposium on "combating trafficking in persons" organized by the Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit of the US Department of Justice for government officials in the two countries.
The symposium, which was held via videoconferencing, aimed to support the bilateral discussions that took place during the Fourth Qatar-US Strategic Dialogue, which was held in Washington in November, and the focus on law enforcement reforms.
The symposium focused on extracting corroborating evidence through interviews with victims of human trafficking, methods for prosecuting human traffickers, and strategies to prosecute them.
In the symposium, HE Vice-Chairman of the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking Dr. Turki bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud stressed the importance of training as part of the memorandum of understanding, pointing out the importance of continued cooperation and joint progress in eliminating this crime.
In her speech at the symposium, Charge d'Affairs at the US Embassy in Qatar Natalie Baker praised the recent reforms undertaken by Qatar in the field of labor and workers and law enforcement efforts aimed at protecting workers' rights and ensuring that they are not exposed to any form of human trafficking.
