In January 2024, Qatar saw a significant surge in tourist arrivals, with visitors from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries making up 53 percent of the total. The country welcomed 370,051 visitors from the GCC alone, marking a substantial increase from the previous year. Additionally, arrivals from other Arab countries rose by 446.1 percent annually.
Overall, Qatar received 702,800 visitors in January, partly due to hosting the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023, which attracted fans worldwide. The extension of the Hayya Card, introduced during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, also benefited tourists visiting for the Asian Cup.
Qatar aims to achieve six million tourists by 2030, with tourism contributing to its GDP growth. The launch of the third National Development Strategy 2024-2030 underscores the importance of tourism in Qatar's development.
Qatar Tourism has planned more than 80 unique events for 2024, including cultural events, sporting championships, and technology conferences, reflecting the country's commitment to attracting visitors through diverse experiences
