Qatar’s reserve water capacity reached 20% in 2023

The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) reported that in 2023, the majority of technical performance indicators for water systems met their targets. The water reserve capacity performance index rate surpassed expectations, reaching 20% compared to the targeted 10%.

Kahramaa revealed that Qatar's current water production capacity stands at 537 million gallons per day, sufficient to meet water demand until 2030. According to the Strategic and Operational Inventory System, the goal was to maintain a five-day inventory throughout the year with levels above 90%.

Water demand has remained steady at 378 million gallons per day over the past three years, indicating a surplus of about 20% compared to the total daily production capacity of 537 million gallons. Customer complaint response time was recorded at 1.42 hours, beating the two-hour target, and the repair time period indicator was 5.3 hours, outperforming the six-hour target.

The strategic Water Security Mega Reservoirs played a crucial role in increasing Qatar's water reserve by over 2,400 million gallons. These reservoirs facilitated water transfer between the north and south regions, allowing routine maintenance of desalination plants. They receive water from desalination plants, pump it to secondary water tanks, and distribute it to consumers. The remotely operated reservoirs are designed for future expansions based on demand.

Kahramaa achieved another milestone by providing uninterrupted electricity to stadiums hosting the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 matches. The statement highlighted the successful operation during the tournament without any disruptions in service at the main and sub-networks supplying the stadiums. The national staff contributed their efforts to ensure the tournament's success.
