Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar’s Prime Minister and its Minister of Foreign Affairs, received a phone call on Monday from Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister — the second such call since the war began.

The two officials discussed the current escalation and its ramifications on regional security and stability, Qatar’s foreign ministry said in a statement.

In the call, Sheikh Mohammed strongly condemned Iran's continued targeting of Qatar and the other countries in the region, noting that such aggression not only jeopardizes regional security but also stability as a whole.

Attacks against nations that have maintained neutrality in the conflict would represent a dangerous escalation, he said, while also condemning any targeting of civilian infrastructure.

He urged all sides to follow international law and to spare civilians the repercussions of the fighting.

The paramount need is the cessation of escalation and preventing the situation from slipping into further deterioration, Sheikh Mohammed said, stressing that a comprehensive and permanent diplomatic solution is the only way to take things forward.

The two officials last spoke on March 4 when Sheikh Mohammed dismissed Iranian assertions that missile strikes were not targeting Qatar.

During that call, Araghchi insisted the strikes targeted U.S. interests and were not aimed at the Gulf state — a claim Sheikh Mohammed rejected outright as “baseless,” pointing to attacks on civilian and residential areas including near Hamad International Airport and facilities associated with liquefied natural gas production.
