Qatars Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Wraps Up Tours to Australia and New Zealand

His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani concluded a successful tour of Australia and New Zealand on Thursday, where he engaged in high-level discussions with the Prime Ministers and several key ministers of both nations. The talks focused on enhancing cooperation across various sectors and addressing regional and international concerns, particularly the situation in the Gaza Strip and occupied Palestinian territories.

In Canberra, HE met with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Richard Marles, and Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong. Discussions centered on strengthening bilateral relations, with a focus on defense, economy, mutual investment, energy, aviation, trade, clean energy, and technology. They also covered key regional and international issues, including the developments in Gaza, efforts to mediate a ceasefire, prisoner releases, and reducing tensions in the Middle East. The latest developments in Afghanistan were also reviewed.

HE the Prime Minister conveyed Qatar’s appreciation for Australia’s support in regional and international peace efforts. In response, the Australian Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged Qatar’s contributions to Middle Eastern security and stability, while the Foreign Minister expressed support for ceasefire mediation in Gaza and gratitude for Qatar's assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic and in evacuating Australians from Afghanistan and Gaza.

In Wellington, HE held separate meetings with New Zealand's Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters, and Minister for Trade and Export Growth Todd McClay. The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations, economic cooperation, investment in aviation, energy, and clean technology, and boosting trade. They also reviewed the humanitarian situation in Gaza and Qatar's mediation efforts to end the conflict there.
