Ahmed Saif
Qatari player Ahmed Saif qualified for the round of 16 of the World Snooker Championship for Individuals, hosted by the Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation and continuing until November 9, with the large participation of the most prominent snooker champions in the world.
Qatari national team player Ahmed Saif qualified directly to the round of 16 after topping the overall standings of Group 5 and winning all his matches, achieving a full score, by defeating Egyptian Omar Rami (4-3), Sri Lankan Taha Arsath (4-2), and South Korean Seang Hyo (4-1).
On the other hand, Qatari Ali Al Obaidli, the title holder, failed to continue his journey to defend his title in the championship, as his journey stopped at the round of 32 and he failed to qualify for the round of 16 after losing to Pakistani Muhammad Asif (2-4), after a strong match by the players.
Ali Al Obaidli topped his first group in the group stage, but did not qualify directly to the round of sixteen because he topped the group with fewer points than the champions of the other groups, after defeating the Indian Hussain Khan (4-2), and the Canadian Charlie Brown (4-0), while losing to the French Nicolas Motriux (3-4).
In the same tournament, the Qatari players Muhanna Al Obaidli, Bashar Hussein and Khamis Al Obaidli failed to advance past the group stage, and bid farewell to the competition early.
On the other hand, the first rounds of the World Masters Men's Championship are currently being held, with the participation of five Qatari players: Ahmed Saif, Bashar Hussein, Abdul Mohsen Khamis, Mohammed Al Bingli and Issa Al Qubaisi.
The Women's Singles World Snooker Championship is also scheduled to start on Thursday, as the three tournaments are being held simultaneously.
For his part, Mishlesh Al Khayareen, Chairman of the Referees Committee of the World Snooker Championship, praised the technical level of the championship matches, which witness the participation of a large group of world and Asian champions, noting that the matches are held in a distinctive atmosphere and that the competitions have not witnessed any complaints from the referees.
Al Khayareen said, in a press statement, that the championship includes 27 referees representing the continents of Europe, Asia and Africa, and they were selected by the International Snooker Federation, noting that the selection of referees in the championship matches is subject to the choices of the technical committee, but in the matches of the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final, consideration is given to selecting referees of a nationality other than the players.
