Qatar fully vaccinates 80% of population against COVID-19: MOPH

Qatar has successfully administered two doses of vaccine against COVID-19 to 80 percent of its population, according to the Ministry of Public Health. 

Latest data from National COVID-19 Vaccination Program shows that 4,653,019 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered since the start of the programme and 80% of the total population is now fully vaccinated with two doses. 

As many as 5,605 COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered in 24 hours. 

The National COVID-19 Vaccination Program has seen changes for the better since its launch on December 23, 2020, using Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines. Children aged from 12 to 15 years are being offered the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine since May 16, 2021 in the country. The authorities have also recently started administering the third doses of the vaccines.  According to latest data published by ‘Our World in Data’, a scientific online publication compiling COVID-19 vaccination data from around the world, Qatar is ranked second in the world for the percentage of population that have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, among countries with a population of more than one million.

With the fast phased vaccination programme the number of daily COVID-19 cases has dropped in Qatar as only 82 new cases were reported yesterday. Among them 52 cases were among community and 30 among travellers. 

Some 164 people have recovered from the virus during 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases recovered in Qatar to 233,116.

No new patient was admitted to intensive care in the past 24 hours, while 18 people continue to receive medical attention in ICU.
