Doha, Qatar: Qatar's aviation industry has continued its impressive growth trend, with a remarkable 28.1 percent increase in air passengers during August 2023 when compared to the same period in 2022.
Data from the Air Transport Statistics for the month highlights a historic milestone, with nearly 4.4 million passengers using the sector during August.
The Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA), in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), reported a 22 percent uptick in aircraft movements compared to August 2022. In the previous month, Qatar recorded 22,909 flight movements, whereas August 2022 saw 18,782 flights, as confirmed by the QCAA.
Additionally, air cargo and mail experienced a slight surge of 3.5 percent in August 2023 when contrasted with the same month in the preceding year. While August 2022 saw air cargo and mail at 190,067 tonnes, last month's figures reached 196,763 tonnes.
Qatar has been on an upward trajectory throughout the first eight months of the year, with significant growth in air travel, flight movements, air cargo, and mail.
In July 2023, the number of air passengers reached 4.3 million, marking a substantial 24.3 percent increase from the same period the previous year.
Notably, June 2023 broke records, with air passenger numbers soaring from 3,105,978 in June 2022 to 3,737,572. This figure represents an all-time high for the month since operations began at both Hamad International Airport and Doha International Airport. In comparison to June 2022, June 2023 witnessed a 20.3 percent increase in air passengers, and aircraft movements also rose by 15.1 percent during the same period.
The months of May and April 2023 registered significant growth in aircraft movements, with increases of 16.6 percent and 14.3 percent, respectively, according to QCAA.
Furthermore, the first three months of the year saw substantial rises in aircraft movements, passenger numbers, air cargo, and mail. Various initiatives were implemented to attract more tourists to the country, contributing to this growth.
As of August 25, 2023, Qatar welcomed an impressive 2.56 million visitors, bolstering the economy. Officials anticipate that the leisure industry will continue to play a substantial role in the country's GDP growth.
