Qatar has significantly improved its quality of life score, securing 182.9 points in the Quality of Life Index by Country 2024 Mid-Year by Numbeo. This is an increase from 169.77 points in December 2023, placing Qatar ahead of most countries in the region.

In the global ranking of 83 countries, Qatar now holds the 17th position, up from 19th place in last year's index where it had 166.6 points. Among regional peers, Qatar is surpassed only by Oman, which ranks fourth with 204 points. Notably, Qatar is ranked higher than Spain (18th), Slovenia (19th), and the United Arab Emirates (20th). Other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries include Saudi Arabia at 25th with 170.5 points and Kuwait at 37th with 152.5 points.

Luxembourg tops the list with 219.3 points, followed by the Netherlands with 207.5 points, and Denmark with 205.6 points.

Qatar's quality of life is rated higher than that of many developed countries, including the United Kingdom, Portugal, Belgium, Ireland, Canada, France, and Italy. Within Asia, Qatar ranks third after Oman and Japan, which has 183.8 points, and is ahead of Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

The Quality of Life Index provides an estimation of the overall quality of life in a country or city, considering factors like purchasing power, pollution levels, housing affordability, cost of living, safety, healthcare quality, commute times, and climate conditions. The higher the index value, the better the quality of life.

Numbeo, one of the world’s largest cost of living databases, compiles this index based on data and user surveys. These surveys capture the perceptions and experiences of visitors to the Numbeo website regarding various aspects of quality of life. The index is calculated using an empirical formula that assigns weights to each factor based on its importance.

According to the report, updated this month, Qatar scored 165.66 on the Purchasing Power Index (classified as 'Very High'), 84.01 on the Safety Index ('Very High'), and 73.45 on the Health Care Index ('High').

Numbeo’s Quality of Life Index reflects a comprehensive crowd-sourced database of cost of living, housing indicators, perceived crime rates, healthcare quality, transport quality, and other statistics, providing a comparative measure of the overall quality of life globally.
