Qatar Plans to Construct a Floating Eco-Hotel
According to Turkish architectural design studio Hayri Atak (HAADS), Qatar is planning to construct a floating eco-hotel on the coastline area. This floating hotel could spin at a slow pace to produce its own electricity through solar, wind, and tidal energy.
In order to save the energy with a ‘zero-waste’ principle, the hotel is expected to construct a maximum of 152 rooms as per the blueprint shared by the design studio.
The newly planned floating eco-hotel will also include VAWTAU or vertical axis wind turbine and umbrella, on the vertical plane. This works as a wind turbine, while on the horizontal plane it serves as a sun umbrella.Â
HAADS stated that this particular function can receive 25 kW of energy from each of the 55 VAWTAU modules.
Along with generating green energy, the hotel also incorporates rainwater harvesting. The vortex-inspired roof collects rainwater that can be treated and used as greywater or to water the green areas of the hotel. Clean water will be received when seawater is purified in the hotel and wastewater will be treated so as not to harm the environment. The design studio also plans to enhance separating waste units so that food waste can be turned into fertilizer for the landscaping.
The hotel also plans to accommodate guest with different facilities into the area by implementing the access of car, boat or by a helicopter and drone to a helipad located on the floating pier.Â
The floating eco-hotel consist of an enormous 700 square metre lobby and all the 152 rooms situated in the hotel has its own balcony, that offers every guest different and unique view of the region as the building revolves. The hotel also includes indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a sauna, spa, gym, and mini golf course providing immense comfort and luxurious life-style for the guests.
