Qatar National Sports Day 2026
Since the Amiri Resolution No. (80) of 2011, Qatar has marked every second Tuesday of February as National Sports Day, a tradition that began in 2012. Since then, it has grown into a nationwide tradition where citizens and residents are encouraged to participate in sporting activities with colleagues, friends, and family. The purpose of this holiday is to promote fitness and wellbeing, while raising awareness about the health risks of an inactive lifestyle, including coronary heart disease and diabetes.
This year's 2026 motto, “I Choose Sport,” reflects the transformation of physical activity into a conscious decision and a shared responsibility within society. It emphasizes the role of sports in enhancing quality of life, building creativity, and fostering a productive, active community.
National Sports Day is organized through the combined efforts of government ministries, including the Ministry of Public Health( MoPh), Hamad Medical Corporation(HMC), Aspire Zone, and the Qatar Olympic Committee (Team Qatar), alongside private sector companies and sporting organizations. Together, they host hundreds of activities across the country, ranging from football and basketball to cycling, swimming, and traditional Al Shawahef rowing championships, which highlight Qatar’s cultural heritage.
Chairman of the National Sports Day Committee 2026 and President of the Qatar Sports for All Federation (QSFA), Abdulrahman bin Muslim Al Dosari, underscored that this day is more than an annual event; it is a national platform for embracing a lifestyle of balance and responsibility. He emphasized that sports are not temporary activities but a way of life, aligned with Qatar’s vision of building a healthy, active, and sustainable society.
