The Qatar International Open Taekwondo Championship concluded on Saturday at Lusail Multipurpose Hall.

The three-day event competitions drew record turnout which reached 1,440 male and female athletes representing 40 countries distributed to four categories and were held for men and women in 8 weight categories for both genders.

Secretary-General of the Qatar Taekwondo, Judo, and Karate Federation and Tournament Director Eid Al Muraikhi expressed his satisfaction with the success of the championship at both the technical and organizational levels.

Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Al Muraikhi added that the tournament drew a record turnout from participants, including athletes, administrators, and trainers, which significantly exceeded all expectations. He affirmed that the event was extraordinary, noting that Lusail Multipurpose Hall was one of the most crucial factors contributing to this success in terms of organization and the facilitation of all matters.

Yesterday the organizers and referees had a hard slog due to the substantial number of participants which reached 700 male and female athletes, which is a testament to the strength and good reputation of this championship, culminating in competitions with best image, he underlined, adding that he looks forward to further successes in the upcoming tournaments.

Al Muraikhi elucidated that the final day competitions were strong in multiple roles as champions from countries renowned with international and Olympic champions had participated in this event, like Kazakhstan, Jordan, Tunisia, and Algeria. He highlighted that the Federation received numerous commendations from the participating delegations and guests pertaining to the good and superb organization, along with the outstanding Lusail Hall.

Speaking to QNA, HE Head of Media Relations at the Qatar Olympic Committee, Sheikh Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani, lauded the extraordinary conclusion of the event and congratulated the Qatar International Open Taekwondo for the superb organization at Lusail Hall, which drew a record turnout. He also congratulated the medal winners in various categories.

Additionally, His Excellency praised the substantial number of fans throughout the event, noting their interactions with the diverse matches. He thanked the Qatar Taekwondo, Judo, and Karate Federation for the excellent organization of the championship, underlining that the Olympic Committee will spare no effort in supporting Qatari local federations and international federations in organizing major world championships.
