Qatar Diabetes Association
The Qatar Diabetes Association organized its 18th annual walk Friday evening at Aspire Park, under the slogan of World Diabetes Day this year: "Diabetes and Healthy Quality of Life", with the participation of more than 10,000 people of all ages to learn and educate themselves about this disease.
Dr. Abdullah Al Hamaq, Executive Director of the Qatar Diabetes Association, said that the aim of the walk is to raise awareness about diabetes, develop a deeper understanding of it, and support those living with it in Qatar.
He added: "In November, people all over the world participate in diabetes walks to celebrate World Diabetes Day.
Every year, we organize a walk to raise awareness about diabetes and support people living with diabetes in Qatar, through walking and activities throughout the day, and we have taken important steps towards developing a broader and deeper understanding of diabetes." Dr. Al Hamaq pointed out that the Association's message from such events is that understanding "diabetes" is the first step towards managing and preventing it, and that knowing the risk of contracting it or its complications, and what should be done is important to support prevention, early diagnosis and timely treatment.
The event witnessed a wide turnout as the audience wore blue march shirts, while families and large numbers of school students and various institutions gathered to support the march and benefit from the activities provided through platforms to provide health awareness about diabetes, and how to prevent it with free tests to measure blood glucose levels, in addition to other sports and cultural activities that everyone enjoyed.
Last week, the Association organized its second scientific conference in conjunction with the celebration of World Diabetes Day on November 14 of each year, which targeted doctors from health centers, clinics and private hospitals in the country, where they were informed of everything new in the treatment and management of diabetes, in addition to holding the first forum for parents of children living with diabetes.
