The General Authority of Customs in Qatar successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 2,100 Lyrica pills into the country through Hamad International Airport. The incident highlights the diligent efforts of customs officials to prevent the illegal entry of contraband into Qatar.

The operation unfolded when a customs agent, acting on suspicion, directed a traveler to undergo an x-ray check. Following the examination, the suspect was subjected to a manual search, during which the illicit pills were discovered concealed in a hidden cloth pouch strapped to the individual’s body.

Lyrica, a prescription medication often used to treat nerve pain and epilepsy, is strictly controlled in Qatar due to its potential for misuse. The General Authority of Customs has consistently warned against the smuggling of illegal goods into the country, enforcing stringent measures to combat such activities.

Officials emphasized that customs inspectors receive intensive theoretical and field training to stay abreast of the latest technology and methods used in smuggling. This includes learning how to read passengers’ body language and identifying evolving techniques employed by smugglers.

The General Authority of Customs remains committed to safeguarding the country's borders and maintaining security at entry points, such as Hamad International Airport. The public is urged to comply with local laws and regulations to avoid severe penalties.
