South Pars gas field targeted amid rising tensions
Israel has attacked the South Pars gas field, the worldās largest natural gas reserve shared between Iran and Qatar, in coordination with and approved by the United States, according to Axios. The targeted facility lies on the Iranian side of the field, which forms the same reservoir as Qatarās North Field.
Qatar has strongly condemned the strike, calling it a dangerous and irresponsible step amid rising military tensions. Majed Al Ansari, spokesperson for Qatarās Foreign Ministry, emphasized the risks such actions pose to regional stability, global energy security, and the environment.
Officials warned that targeting energy infrastructure threatens supply chains and endangers populations across the region. Qatar highlighted the critical importance of safeguarding vital facilities and reiterated calls for restraint, adherence to international law, and responsible deāescalation.
In a related development, Iranās Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued evacuation warnings for residents near five oil facilities in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, urging immediate relocation to safe areas.
Qatar stressed that avoiding attacks on essential infrastructure is crucial for both regional and global security, as well as the safety of local populations. The nation urged calm and responsibility while monitoring developments closely, prioritizing peace, safety, and stability for all residents.
