Qatar Condemns Attack on UAE ADNOC Vessel in Strait of Hormuz

Qatar has strongly condemned an Iranian missile attack targeting an Emirati ADNOC tanker while the vessel was transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

Qatar described the incident as a clear violation of international law and the principle of freedom of maritime navigation, as well as a breach of UN Security Council Resolution 2817.

According to ADNOC, one of its vessels was targeted by a missile while passing through the Strait of Hormuz in the early hours of Saturday, August 8. No injuries were reported, and the situation was brought under control.

Qatar Calls for Unconditional Reopening of Strait

In its statement, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the country’s firm rejection of attempts to use the Strait of Hormuz as a means of political or strategic pressure.

The ministry called for the waterway to be reopened without conditions, stressing that freedom of navigation through the Strait is a fundamental principle that cannot be compromised.

Qatar also warned that the continued closure of the Strait could threaten the vital interests of countries across the region while creating wider risks for the global economy.

Qatar Expresses Full Solidarity With UAE

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for an end to attacks on the assets of neighbouring countries and reaffirmed Qatar’s full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates.

Qatar also expressed its support for measures taken by the UAE to safeguard its assets.

The Strait of Hormuz is a strategically important international waterway, making freedom and security of maritime navigation through the area a major concern for regional countries and the wider global economy.
