Qatar Central Bank Issues First-Ever Licence for Insurance Price Comparison Platform

Doha - Qatar's financial technology sector has reached a new milestone, with the Qatar Central Bank (QCB) confirming on 20 July 2026 that it has granted the country's first licence for a digital insurance price comparison service.

The licence went to Amman Company, which will now be authorized to run a platform allowing customers to compare prices on insurance documents and policies across different providers. 

With this addition, the number of financial technology firms operating under QCB's direct supervision and regulatory oversight has climbed to 16. The steady expansion of this list reflects how quickly Qatar's fintech landscape has been developing in recent years, as more digital-first companies enter sectors that were traditionally dominated by conventional financial institutions.

According to the central bank, the licence is part of a broader strategy to build out and strengthen the country's financial technology ecosystem. QCB has been actively working to widen the range of licensed digital financial services available to consumers and businesses, positioning Qatar as a more competitive hub for fintech innovation in the region.

Insurance comparison platforms have become increasingly common internationally, giving consumers an easier way to evaluate policy options, coverage terms, and pricing before committing to a purchase. By formally licensing and regulating such a platform, QCB is signaling that this type of service will now be brought inside a supervised framework, rather than operating informally or through unregulated channels.

Industry observers say the approval could pave the way for more companies to seek similar licences in the future, as demand grows for transparent, tech-driven ways to shop for insurance. It also reinforces QCB's broader push to modernize the country's financial services sector, encouraging innovation while keeping new entrants under regulatory watch.
