In 2023, the Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) covered treatment expenses for 1,360 patients, totaling approximately QR12,725,000, as disclosed by QCS Chairman Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Jabr Al Thani. This financial assistance was extended to both adult patients at the National Centre for Cancer Care and Research and children at Sidra Medicine.
The initiative underscores the organization's steadfast dedication to providing comprehensive care for cancer patients in Qatar, aligning with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the leadership's directives to excel in cancer care. Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Jabr Al Thani emphasized the organization's commitment to supporting cancer patients and fulfilling its societal role.
In addition to financial aid, Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Jabr Al Thani highlighted sustainable programs offering psychological support to patients and their families.
These initiatives, such as "Our Children are Gold," "Your Smile is Our Life," "I am a Survivor. I Will Inspire You with My Story," "Together We Can" support groups, and "Community Participation," aim to empower, advocate, and reintegrate cancer patients into society.
Discussing the recent cancer statistics in Qatar, the chairman referenced a report from the Qatar National Cancer Registry, affiliated with the Ministry of Public Health, indicating that in 2019, 2,525 new cancer cases were recorded.
