Led by Tokyo 2020 bronze medalists Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, Team Qatar aims for another medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The star duo began their campaign with an impressive 2-0 win over Italy's Paolo Nicolae and Samuele Cottava on Saturday, marking Qatar's first victory at the games.

They won the first set 21-19 and secured the second set 21-18, with Tijan making two diving digs to clinch the rally at 18-16.

Competing in Pool A, Qatar will next face Sweden on July 29, followed by a match against Australia on August 1. Sweden, led by world champions David Aahman and Jonatan Hellvig, currently tops the group and defeated Australia in straight sets.

Younousse and Tijan, ranked 14th in the FIVA classification for the Paris Olympics, qualified last month by earning 5800 points across 10 competitions. The duo won a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
