QRCS Launches Environmental Sanitation Campaign in Sudan

Khartoum, September 22, 2026 : The representation office of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) in Sudan has launched an environmental sanitation campaign in the Khartoum East Locality, in coordination with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Khartoum Cleaning Corporation (KCC). The campaign forms part of a large-scale, three-month program set to eventually cover all localities across Khartoum State.

The first phase targets seven neighborhoods in Khartoum East, spanning an area of approximately 30 square kilometers. Intensive cleaning and sanitation activities are underway, including the cleaning of streets, markets, and residential areas; removal of waste piles and debris; garbage disposal; improvement of public landscapes; and broader hygiene and environmental sanitation measures.

An estimated 330,000 displaced and poor people are expected to benefit from the interventions, which carry a total cost of QR 28 million.

To formalize the partnership, QRCS and KCC signed a Terms of Reference (ToR) document outlining the roles, responsibilities, and coordination mechanisms for both parties, ensuring effective and well-organized field interventions.

The launch ceremony was attended by Khartoum's Minister of Health Dr. Mohamoud Al Badri, Secretary-General of the Higher Council for Environment Ghada Hussein Al Awad, Executive Director of Khartoum Locality Abdelmonim Al Bashir, Director of KCC Omar Othman Ali, along with the head and staff of QRCS's office in Sudan.

The campaign is part of QRCS's broader efforts to support local authorities in improving environmental sanitation and public services, reduce health and environmental risks linked to waste accumulation, and strengthen coordination with government bodies and specialized organizations.

It falls under QRCS's Integrated Humanitarian Interventions project, a multi-sector initiative supporting affected and displaced communities across various Sudanese states. The project spans several sectors, including health, water and sanitation, emergency relief, and education support.
