Philippine authorities have ordered the suspension of work, schools, and currency and stock trading following heavy rainfall caused by Hurricane Jamie and monsoon winds on Wednesday.

The presidential office announced that classes at all academic levels and most government office work in the capital area, home to at least 13 million people, have been suspended.

The Philippine weather agency reported that Typhoon Jamie, with maximum sustained winds of 155 km/h, is moving toward Taiwan. Although the typhoon has not yet made landfall, it is intensifying the southwest monsoon, leading to heavy rains. The weather agency warned that flooding and landslides caused by the rains are likely.
