Palestinians Killed, Others Injured in Ongoing Israeli Shelling of Gaza Strip

Palestinians continue to be killed and wounded in Gaza amid ongoing Israeli shelling and military operations, despite a ceasefire agreement that took effect in October 2025. According to Gaza's Health Ministry, seven Palestinians were killed and 16 others wounded over a recent 48-hour period, with nine additional bodies recovered from areas that had been inaccessible, as artillery shelling continued to strike populated areas including the Al-Salatin area west of Beit Lahia in northern Gaza.

In one recent incident, ambulance crews recovered the bodies of two Palestinians, identified as Bilal Hussein Abu Rabia and Hamza Imad Hamdouna, who had been killed by Israeli forces in Beit Lahia and had been missing for several days before their remains were located. Heavy gunfire from military vehicles was also reported in the area amid the ongoing shelling.

A Pattern of Near-Daily Violations

The latest casualties form part of a consistent pattern of violence that has continued largely unabated since the ceasefire took effect. Gaza's Government Media Office has documented more than 1,000 people killed since October, alongside thousands of reported ceasefire violations, even as large-scale fighting has formally paused. Palestinian officials and international observers note that Israeli forces have continued conducting strikes, demolitions, and artillery shelling across the territory despite the truce.

The Israeli military has generally said its operations target Hamas fighters and infrastructure, or respond to specific ceasefire violations, though it has not always provided detailed evidence for individual strikes. Independent monitors, including United Nations agencies, have described the Gaza Health Ministry's broader casualty figures as generally reliable.

Widening Territorial Control

Alongside the continued strikes, Israeli forces have expanded the area under their control inside Gaza to roughly 70 percent of the territory, according to recent reporting, confining Palestinians to less than a third of the Strip. Forced displacement orders and demolitions of Palestinian-owned buildings have continued in areas under Israeli control, including a large explosion during a demolition operation east of Bani Suheila near Khan Younis.

The Palestinian presidency has separately warned that Israel's continued strikes in Gaza, combined with settler attacks in the occupied West Bank, risk what it described as an "uncontrollable explosion" in the broader situation if the pattern continues unaddressed.

The Broader Toll

The overall death toll from the war, which began in October 2023, has climbed past 73,000 Palestinians, with more than 173,000 others injured, according to Gaza's Ministry of Health. The ministry's detailed casualty records, which include names, ages, and identifying information for confirmed victims, have been described by United Nations agencies and independent researchers as generally reliable, though the ministry does not distinguish between civilian and combatant deaths in its overall totals.

Where Things Stand

Nearly nine months after the ceasefire was announced, the agreement's later phases — including Hamas's disarmament and the deployment of an international stabilization force intended to oversee a broader transition in Gaza — remain incomplete. In the meantime, Palestinians in Gaza continue to report new casualties on a near-daily basis, with shelling, drone strikes, and demolition operations persisting even as the formal ceasefire framework remains technically in effect.
